| March 31, 2007 Situation in Haiti |
| Earlier this week, storms and flooding rains passed over Haiti. Many provinces appear to have been hit and reports continue to arrive at International Headquarters concerning the situation in Haiti. The congregation at Cacasse has been destroyed and the capital area, Cité Soleil—a zone known for its poverty and gang violence—has also been severely damaged by flash flooding. Thousands of people have lost their homes and many church members have been evacuated to large tents installed by the United Nations. According to reports from local pastors, the tents are severely overcrowded and there is not enough food for everyone. Mission Center Financial Officer, Michel Rosier, is still in Haiti after having his passport and visa stolen before World Conference. He is heading up the local response plan and will begin distributing the $10,000 sent from Oblation and disaster relief funds. After Rosier has had time to further explore the situation, additional funds will be made available to meet the needs of the people. All provincial coordinators for the church in Haiti are currently attending World Conference. The International Services Office has provided a conference room and telephones to facilitate attempts to call home to receive specific information about their provinces and families. At this time the best way to help is through your prayers and generous donations to the Oblation Fund. This retreat was started 12 years ago and draws people from three mission centers, Canada, California and as far away as Minnesota.
