About Lewis River Campground
The Lewis River Campground Association represents 14 congregations that make up the geographical central area of the GPNW Mission Center. The campground property contains approximately 50 acres that includes Lewis River frontage, timber, and two creeks that are tributaries to the Lewis River.
The church originally purchased the property in 1948 to provide a location for church-sponsored camps and retreats. The first camps were held in large tents. In the 1950s, individual families were allowed to build their own cabins on the property for family meals and sleeping. Each cabin was designed by the family that built it; thus, each cabin has its own unique size and theme. These cabins eventually became the property of the campground, and are now available to all campers. There are 45 useable cabins in existence today.
As the years went by, the chapel was constructed as a versatile central gathering place for the campground. A central dining/cooking structure was built to eliminate cooking in the cabins, and now provides a healthy place to prepare food at the campground. A central restroom and shower was built. Additional structures added also include a caretaker residence, a lodge, a structure that is used for classroom and office space, and several additional cabins used for storage and classrooms. There is also a small RV area that has electric and water connections.
This location has been a spiritual home for generations of church members and friends. This leads to a sense of sacredness that many feel when they walk the grounds.
