Wesley Eastham of Anchorage Congregation, won the Valdez Kids' Pink Salmon Derby! Wesley's prize pink salmon weighed in at 6.04 pounds. He won a longboard skateboard, a five-year subscription to Fish Alaska magazine, and an Alps Mountaineering tent. At the “Follow the Light” 6th annual gala of the Washington Association of Churches, the Puget Sound Interfaith Youth Camp received one of three 2008 Ecumenical Leadership Awards. Kathy Erlandson of Olympia Congregation is Executive Director of Interfaith Works, and was honored for her work with the Interfaith Youth Camp program, which “offers a safe place for youth from a variety of faith and religious traditions to be themselves, have a great time in a beautiful natural setting, and discover more about their common humanity.” The camp is held annually at the YMCA Camp Seymour in Gig Harbor, WA for 7th and 8th graders of all religions. Garden Grove Congregation partnered with a foster-parent liaison for Clark County and recently debuted “Fostering Fun” - a night out for foster parents! Twenty-five children came for pizza, games, crafts and a movie, while their foster parents had a rejuvenating break from child care. View the article in The Columbian! From October 23, 2008.
